VSC Training Course: Linux and First Steps on the VSC-3 Cluster, March 15, 2018

    Description:

    This Linux command-line course is for users (or soon to be users) of the VSC-3 cluster only. You will learn how to login to VSC-3 and step-by-step we will show you how to work on the Linux command line and a few basic things that will help you to organise your workflows on the cluster. Focusing on hands-on teaching throughout the course, you will immediately try out what you've heard and adapt it to your own needs.

    After attending this course you are prepared for and might consider to continue with the VSC Training Course: Introduction to Working on the VSC-3 Cluster to be able to use the VSC-3 supercomputer and especially its queuing system efficiently.

    Prerequisites:

    There is no previous knowledge required for this course.

    We suggest that you bring along your own laptop to benefit most from the hands-on exercises.
    Please make sure, that Opens external link in new windoweduroam is properly configured on your laptop, so that access to VSC-3 is possible during the course. If you use a Windows laptop please install the following software packages prior to the course: Opens external link in new windowPuTTY and Opens external link in new windowFileZilla or Opens external link in new windowwinscp.

    Alternatively, you can also work on one of the Linux PCs available in the course room, especially if this rather corresponds to your normal workflow.

    You should work with your own user account on VSC-3 during the course. If you do not yet have an own account we will provide a training user account for the course.

    Presentations will be in English (German only if all participants choose German as preferred language), support during the hands-on sessions is available both in English or German.

    Registration:

    Registration will start on January 29, 2018.

    Registration deadline is Monday, March 12, 2018; but only as long as seats are available.

    This course is free of charge and coffee/tea/juice & cookies will be provided (lunch is not included).
